The Princess Alice Disaster 1878

Passengers stepped contently onto the packed deck of the steamship for their return to London after an enjoyable day spent on the beach at Sheerness. Halfway on its journey it was hit by the coal ship, Bywell Castle, a vessel three times its size. The impact sliced the smaller boat apart and it sank rapidly, throwing all its passengers and crew into the Thames. The Princess Alice incident was the largest loss of life ever on a British waterway, but its story has been lost in time.

Narrative

Quicksand

The official trailer for the short film, 'Quicksand'. Cecilia embarks on a challenging new chapter, balancing the roles of both partner and carer for her husband, Albert, who is living with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Quicksand stars established British actors Deborah Cornelius (Mr Selfridge, Silent Witness, Temple, Bertie and Elizabeth) and Clive Mantle (Game of Thrones, Casualty, Robin of Sherwood, Sherlock). The film aims to spark conversations around dementia and highlight the unique challenges faced by loved ones who take on the role of carers. The film explores the transition to ‘living differently’ that dementia brings to those it affects, while also highlighting what it can mean to step into the role of a carer. The film features “I Wrote This For You”, a song by the renowned composer and lyricist Steve Brown. Brown is the beloved, late husband of Deborah Cornelius (Cecilia) and a longtime collaborator of Steve Coogan and Harry Hill. Music composed by Catherine Hillier.
